Meet the Committee
Supporting the membership to be able to both participate in and enjoy the weekly classes is at the heart of all the activities that the Committee Members undertake.
The Community Tai Chi Scotland Management Committee is made up of 3 volunteer Committee Members, who meet once a month online, to discuss all aspects of managing the Community Group, including :-
- Funding
- Finances
- Promoting the classes
- Increasing the membership
- Communications
Our Members
* Elaine MacMahon is our Chair. Elaine has been attending classes at Flowering Lotus Tai Chi School, run by our Teacher, Jamie Simpson, for over 5 years. She also attends the Wednesday morning classes. Elaine is passionate about the many physical and mental health benefits that Tai Chi can bring and wants to encourage others to try tai chi for themselves, hence she set up Community Tai Chi Scotland in order to allow the classes to continue for free, after council funding ceased in May 2023.
*Alison McGhee is our Treasurer and a keen Group participant and has been attending the online Tai Chi classes for over 4 years. Alison finds Tai Chi helps her manage the chronic pain she experiences. She is a retired deputy Head Teacher and she has thrown herself into her role as Treasurer, supporting the Chair in all aspects of the work of the Committee, including funding applications and authorising payments but she goes above and beyond by writing to Councillors and MSPs to garner support for the Group and to raise awareness.
Our third member, our Secretary, is currently taking some time out.
Whilst not a Committee Member, we couldn’t run our Group without our much loved Teacher, Jamie Simpson, who, as well as delivering well instructed, fun classes, provides us with support to design and set up this website for which we are most grateful.
To see more about Jamie’s experience as a Teacher and the other classes he runs visit Tai Chi Glasgow south.
